ACF Exec Director on the Long Overdue Resignation of Northwestern’s Michael Schill

The following statement is attributable to Avi D. Gordon, Executive Director of Alums for Campus Fairness:

“Michael Schill’s resignation is long overdue. He repeatedly failed to meet the moment, refusing to confront rising anti-Jewish hatred on campus and even succumbing to the demands of the pro-Hamas encampment back in 2024.

“ACF’s Northwestern chapter engaged meaningfully at Northwestern University for nearly two years, eventually calling for Schill’s resignation in April 2024, after he demonstrated his unwillingness to take responsibility for creating a safe learning environment for Jewish students.

“We ran several high-profile, multi-faceted accountability campaigns to help bring about this day. We aired hard-hitting TV ads and leveraged high-visibility moments like homecoming, graduation, and the Wildcats’ 2023 bowl game to maximize the pressure and force the university to confront its broken leadership."

Schill’s departure presents an opportunity to turn the page towards a better future for all Northwestern students and alumni. We are hopeful that the Board of Trustees will appoint a leader committed to transparency, accountability, and the safety and inclusion of all. We will be watching.”
