Peter Salovey and
Yale College Council,
As alumni, parents, and community members of Yale University represented by Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF), we strongly condemn the recent Yale College Council (YCC) statement of condemnation against Israel.
This past weekend, the YCC voted to release a statement lambasting Israel directly by claiming that they are guilty of apartheid. We must not allow Yale to become a campus that fosters antisemitism and threatens the well-being of Jewish students. Antisemitism is abhorrent and when universities are pillars of truth, academic freedom, and open discourse, antisemitism is not tolerated.
As alumni, we are absolutely a part of the university. In light of this statement, ACF questions YCC’s commitment to representing all students, including Jewish and Zionist students. Alumni cannot stand by as YCC attempts to isolate Jewish and Zionist students at our alma mater.
Therefore, we call on your Administration to:
Commit to fighting antisemitism and making Yale safer for the Jewish and pro-Israel community;
Adopt the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism;
Form a working group focused on assessing, recommending, and executing initiatives and policies to combat antisemitism, of which includes members of the Jewish community at Yale and its leadership.
ACF asks that you affirm your commitment to all Yale community members. As the unified alumni voice in countering antisemitism, now is the time for your Administration to show support for the Jewish community through action.
