ACF Calls for Accountability After Israeli Flag Defaced on Wayne State’s Spirit Rock

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) is calling on Wayne State University to enforce its own campus policies following reports that an Israeli flag painted on the university’s Spirit Rock was defaced with fake blood during an anti-Israel rally on October 7, 2026.

According to ACF’s chapter leader at Wayne State, Jewish students received threatening messages on Yik Yak, and one Jewish student has reportedly left campus housing over safety concerns. Campus police were present during the rally and subsequently provided protection for the Spirit Rock.

Wayne State’s existing Spirit Rock policy prohibits individuals from painting over other groups’ work, stating that “tagging letters, names, or symbols over other groups’ paintings is prohibited.” The policy limits painting to registered student organizations with reservations and provides for Student Code of Conduct charges for violations.

Wayne State is a public university where protection for student protest is broad. ACF is not asking it to restrict speech, only to apply the policy it already has.

ACF will monitor whether Wayne State investigates the defacement and the threats, enforces its Spirit Rock policy and conduct code, and holds anyone accountable.
