ACF Welcomes Withdrawal of EEOC Subpoena for Penn’s Jewish Employee Information

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) welcomes the decision by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to withdraw its subpoena seeking the personal information of Jewish employees at University of Pennsylvania. The university has confirmed that no employee information was disclosed.

The subpoena was issued as part of the EEOC’s investigation into whether Penn failed to adequately address antisemitism affecting Jewish employees. The agency had sought lists and personal contact information for Jewish faculty and staff, but the university declined to provide the information and appealed an April court order requiring compliance.

With the subpoena now withdrawn, Penn will end its appeal. However, the EEOC’s broader investigation into the university’s handling of antisemitism remains ongoing.

The withdrawal of the subpoena appropriately protects the privacy of Jewish employees while allowing the underlying investigation to continue. Efforts to combat antisemitism should never come at the expense of the privacy and security of those the investigation is intended to protect.
