ACF Monitoring Antisemitic Vandalism at Rutgers-Affiliated HELIX Building

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) is closely monitoring an act of vandalism at the Rutgers-affiliated Health & Life Science Exchange (HELIX) building in New Brunswick that authorities are investigating as a potential bias incident.

On September 9, the building was vandalized with an inverted red triangle, a symbol that has been used in Hamas propaganda to mark Israeli military targets. Nearby traffic barriers were also spray-painted with the words “Death to IDF.” The inverted red triangle has subsequently been used in anti-Israel demonstrations and graffiti, including in contexts associated with support for Hamas and violence against Israelis and Jews.

The HELIX is a major Rutgers-affiliated development that houses Rutgers Health facilities, including the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and research facilities. The vandalism comes amid ongoing anti-Israel activism surrounding Rutgers’ relationship with Tel Aviv University.

ACF condemns the vandalism and the use of threatening imagery and language at a Rutgers-affiliated facility. The university should ensure that incidents targeting the Jewish and pro-Israel community are taken seriously and investigated appropriately.
