Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) applauds student leaders for defeating a hateful divestment resolution at the University of Maryland at College Park (UMD).

In rejecting hate and division, the Student Government Association (SGA) discussed the divestment resolution for over 5 hours throughout the evening, leading to a vote of 9 in favor, 25 against, and 2 abstention. With this vote, SGA has ensured that all student voices, including those of Jewish and Pro-Israel students, would be heard.

ACF recognizes that this divestment resolution, as part of the larger BDS movement, not only contributes to an environment of anti-Semitism, but actively promotes anti-Semitism through the demonization and delegitimization of Israel, the nation state of the Jewish people. Part of ensuring student success requires a commitment to protecting all campus communities from bigotry, including the Jewish and Pro-Israel community. We will continue to stand by our campus as a pillar of truth, academic freedom, and open discourse where anti-Semitism shall be never be accepted. ACF is proud to support the Jewish and Pro-Israel communities at UMD.

ACF appreciates the hard work that Terps United Against BDS, Maryland Hillel and our other campus partners on the ground put in to support students and counter bigotry at UMD. We will continue our work to end anti-Semitism and promote honest and respectful discourse at UMD.
