ACF Commends American University for Suspending SJP Chapter

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) commends American University for suspending its campus chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) through November 6, 2027, citing violations of university policies.

The chapter has been on disciplinary probation since April 2024 following an indoor protest that violated campus rules. The university had also previously canceled at least one SJP event after determining that promotional materials included imagery and language that raised safety concerns. In an Instagram post responding to the suspension, AU SJP referred to the university’s board as “The Board of Butchers” and stated, “A suspension means nothing to us… University repression will be met with resistance.”

The rhetoric underscores the importance of consistently enforcing campus policies and maintaining a safe, respectful environment for all students. ACF applauds the AU administration for taking action and encourages continued, even-handed enforcement of university policies.
