Alums for Campus Fairness is deeply concerned about the City University of New York’s (CUNY) decision to hire anti-Israel professor and commentator Marc Lamont Hill as the CUNY Graduate Center’s presidential professor of urban education.

In 2018, Hill was fired from CNN and publicly criticized by Temple University (his former employer) after calling for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea” — a phrase the anti-Israel movement uses to call for the destruction of Israel. Hill is a proponent of the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement and recently voiced his support for the American Anthropological Association’s academic boycott of Israel.

“The choice to hire such a virulently anti-Israel academic completely contradicts CUNY’s supposed commitment to addressing antisemitism and is another example of its failed leadership,” said Avi D. Gordon, ACF executive director. “Alums for Campus Fairness will continue to apply pressure on CUNY’s leaders to ensure they take meaningful action to better the campus climate for Jewish and pro-Israel students.”
