Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) expresses concern over the upcoming Gaza Conference titled “Conflict Over Gaza: People, Politics, and Possibilities” being held at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC), in collaboration with Duke University (Duke). We understand the importance of providing a platform for diverse academics with diverse perspectives to share their expertise with university communities, as to enhance academic freedom and opportunity for all students. In undertaking this conference, we are concerned that the content of this conference will fall short in providing balanced and accurate education regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as it relates to Gaza.

ACF is most concerned with the many speakers who support the BDS movement and are not interested in a fair and open dialogue on the issues in Gaza including the most pressing issue that Hamas, the internationally recognized terrorist organization, runs the Gaza strip. The BDS movement is anti-Semitic in that it unfairly targets Israel and falsifies claims against the only Jewish State in the world. Part of ensuring student success requires a commitment to protecting all campus communities from hate and isolation, including the Jewish and pro-Israel community. We will continue to stand by our campus community as a marketplace of ideas where anti-Semitism shall be never be accepted. ACF is proud to support the Jewish and Pro-Israel communities at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill and we will continue to ensure that academic freedom and opportunity is rooted in truth and honesty regarding Israel.
