Alums for Campus Fairness at Tufts University (ACF-Tufts) is appalled that our campus endures another display of bigotry, this time against the LGBTQ+ community. The recent homophobic incident where an undergraduate student reported finding a homophobic slur scratched into the door of their residence hall room, is another alarming manifestation of hate on campus. As a unified alumni voice against bigotry, ACF-Tufts will not stand by as any student at our alma mater is targeted.

We appreciate Tufts University President Anthony Monaco’s statement and hold him to his conviction that “we must all recommit ourselves to ensuring that Tufts remains an open, inclusive, and welcoming community. All students, faculty, and staff should have the opportunity to thrive at Tufts, living, working, and studying without the threat of bias or discrimination.” ACF-Tufts supports the Tufts University Police Department and the Office of Equal Opportunity in each of the recent investigations, that they remain swift and transparent to ensure the safety of the campus community.

The Tufts community must remember that every minority community on campus can openly and freely express themselves. ACF-Tufts’ Chapter Leader Susan Price says, “Parents and alumni want all members of the Tufts community to feel safe and refuse to allow these detestable deeds to become routine.”

ACF-Tufts will remain steadfast in responding to all incidents of bigotry at Tufts and is committed to promoting an atmosphere of inclusion and respect for all students.
