Alums for Campus Fairness Mourns Tragedies at Brown University and in Australia; Calls for Strength as Chanukah Begins

New York, NY — Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) stands united in grief and resolve after the wave of violence that has shaken the campus and Jewish community this weekend.

We are heartbroken by the horrific shooting attack at Brown University that killed two students. We mourn with the families and the community in Providence and around the world.

We are also heartbroken by the terrorist mass shooting that targeted and killed Jews celebrating Chanukah at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. May the memories of those murdered be a blessing, and may the wounded find healing.

These tragedies strike just as we prepare to celebrate Chanukah. During this holiday, we are reminded that even a small light can push back such darkness. At a time when hatred and antisemitism seek to intimidate and silence us, we draw strength from our tradition and refuse to allow our light to be dimmed.

“Our identity, our history, and our values are sources of resilience and hope,” said Avi D. Gordon, executive director of Alums for Campus Fairness. “We will not shrink in the face of darkness, and we will always work hard to illuminate it.”

As we light the Chanukah candles tonight and this week, may we keep in mind all those murdered and injured. May the candles remind us of our responsibility to bring light and truth into the world.

ACF will continue to confront campus antisemitism wherever it appears and to stand unapologetically with Israel and the Jewish people.
