On Tuesday, December 21, The Graduate Labor Organization of Brown University announced their endorsement of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. The referendum calls on the Brown Corporation to, “divest all stocks, funds, endowment and other monetary instruments from companies complicit in the human rights abuses in Palestine.” ACF-Brown condemns this antisemetic rhetoric and action.

Naomi Reinharz, ACF-Brown Chapter Leader said, “Campaigns such as BDS serve only to isolate Jewish and pro-Israel students under the guise of social justice. We condemn this clear form of hatred and stand with the Brown Jewish and pro-Israel communities as allies.”

Brown RISD Hillel Executive Director, Rabbi Joshua Bolton, stated, “anti-Israel activism at Brown is reflective of trends we are all familiar with from around the country.”

This BDS initiative not only contributes to an environment of antisemitism, but actively promotes antisemitism through the demonization and delegitimization of Israel, the nation state of the Jewish people. BDS and any form of bigotry has no place at Brown.

ACF-Brown will remain unified in combating BDS and all forms of antisemitism at Brown. We call on the greater Brown community to stand with Jewish students, pro-Israel students and their allies on campus.
