Second Man Charged in 2024 Assault of Jewish DePaul Students

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) is monitoring developments in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the 2024 assault of two Jewish students at DePaul University.

Last week, Kasem Noubani was charged with a hate crime and aggravated battery in connection with the attack on students Michael Kaminsky and Max Long. Noubani faces the same charges as Adam Erkan, who previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced in December 2025.

Kaminsky and Long filed a lawsuit against DePaul University during the 2024-2025 academic year, alleging that university public safety officers “stood idly by and watched the assault unfold” rather than intervening during the attack.

In the aftermath of the assault, Kaminsky and Long also played a leading role in advancing the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism by the City of Chicago, helping strengthen the city’s framework for identifying and addressing antisemitism. ACF continues to follow this case closely and emphasizes the importance of accountability and campus safety.
